  • Well, it’s here…

Well, the snow stuck so it looks like the Madison winter is upon us. According to the almanac, we’re supposed to get 180+ inches this winter. I got my snowblower fixed last spring…so don’t sing it mother nature…bring it.

  • Our little helper…

For those of you who have never met Caleb he is a great little helper, he is always trying to lend a hand.

Take for instance that last sock in the

    dryer…

What can I say, the kid is thorough and really tries to finish the job that he starts.  Have a great week.

  • It just keeps getting better…

It doesn’t happen often, I know, but I (Mandy) decided to blog tonight.

Life just keeps getting better.  I think this month has just been a month of me realizing this over and over again.  Caleb continues to get more fun every month.  The business is doing well, even when the economy is so rough these days (God is so faithful).  We found time to can 98 pints of homemade applesauce (with lots of help from our friends Matt and Allison and the apple machine the Stivers gave us)!  We moved Caleb to a big boy bed! I celebrated my 10 year reunion from SHS (crazy) ! Lastly Caleb was the cutest darn gorilla ever for the Fall Party at preschool on Wednesday (mommy went in her pajamas…. I wasn’t super creative this year, but very comfy 🙂 )

Here are the pictures to prove that all I say is true 🙂Caleb getting his beauty sleep in his new big boy bed

    Canning is hard work :)

It’s hard work canning applesauce 🙂

See how much better the water table is than canning applesauce?

It’s much more fun playing in the water table than canning!

The night of my 10 year reunion (did I mention my husband was the hottest guy in the room as always :0) )

    Told ya he looked cute!

I told ya he was cute!

  • I was really surprised and why are Young Christian Men Weirdos?

OK, so I first have to tell everyone who was at my surprise birthday party last night THANK YOU…you are awesome.  That is the first time anyone has been able to throw a surprise party for my birthday.  Mandy you rock, good job babe, I had no idea it was coming.

For those who weren’t there last night and have no idea what I am talking about my wife pulled of a great surprise party.  Yesterday was a great day, I met with the Chicago Bulls head strength coach and he really liked the software I wrote so he will probably end up purchasing it when we go to sell it in January.  Then, I drove home from Chicago and thought we were going to have dinner with a couple friends of ours and just have a chill night.  So when I walked into the house and a bunch of people came running around the corner with balloons and yelling “SURPRISE!!!!!” I was a little shocked because my birthday isn’t for a couple weeks so I had no idea this was coming.

So yesterday was a great day.  Tonight Mandy and I are working on stuff and she was looking for something in her email and came across some really old emails and I just have to say that there are some men in this world who do everything that they can to repell women.  C’mon guys, quit being stalkers and you might have a chance.  Talking about a woman’s beautiful eyes (which they are) and asking her to go to Africa with you on a missions trip after only talking to her once is not the right way to do things.

Anyway, I need to dig my way out of my inbox from being gone yesterday.  Have a great weekend.

  • My Biological Clock is ticking…

Normally you hear about a biological clock when it comes to women, but thankfully my clock

is ticking correctly.  Last week I read an article similar to this and it reminded me to be thankful that I had trained my internal clock pretty well.  Having a clock that was ticking correctly saved me this morning.  I had called for a wake-up call at 5:30 this morning so that I could get up and workout and still make it to the client site on time but the call never came.  But, I still woke up at 5:36 (alright so my clock is a little off, but hey, 6 minutes isn’t bad, give me a break).  So I was able to get up and work out like I wanted to.

On another clock note…why are they still horking around (as a friend of mine calls it) with this bailout bill?  I agree with President Bush that this situation needs action in hours not days but wait, it’s Rosh Hoshana so let’s take a vacation in the House of Representatives…WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!  Are you kidding me?  We HAVE to get a decision on this crisis NOW, not later.  Either that or shut down the news companies like the chronically negative news spewing negative news all of the time which isn’t going to happen so get your backsides back into the House and get going.

On a more positive note, I have a picture for you.  Earlier in September we had a NICU “Family” Reunion for kids who had to be at the NICU at St. Mary’s in Madison.  So without further ado, here is the picture.

  • The Green Bible…REALLY?

I’m on the road in Dixon, IL for work right now and was reading Time magazine (pg. 57 of the 9/29/2008 issue) while I took a break from working (I usually put in really long days when I am on the road because I don’t have anything better to do so it is not irregular for me to work a 14 – 16 hour day, including travel time, when I am on the road) and I ran across an article talking about the The Green Bible.  REALLY?  Talk about majoring on the minors…from what I can tell, it doesn’t highlight the words of Jesus but all the verses that deal with the environment are in forest green.  Don’t get me wrong, I am all for stewardship, but c’mon…is this really what we want to focus on?  I thought we were supposed to be leading the charge not following the new green tree hugging fad that is going around our culture right now.  Do I think that Christians should be leading the charge when

it comes to being better stewards of the Earth?  You Bet!  Do I think these guys missed the boat completely, You Bet!  Anyway, enough of my rant…have a great night.

  • Ronald will smite thee!!!

OK, this one is for my loyal readers (you have to be loyal if you are reading this because I post so infrequently).

I am in a training class down in Chicago and we pricelined my hotel and got a really good deal.  After my training class I found a Taco Bell and grabbed a quick bite to eat.  Then I drove to my hotel and realized that it was on the campus of the McDonals Corporation so here I am taking my soda from Taco Bell walking into the hotel that is connected to Hamburger University saying “Oh great Ronald McDonald please do not smite me or kick me in the butt with those big red shoes.”  Anyway, it was a good hotel, I had to pay for internet which was kind of crappy but oh well.

Completely different subject…when I grew up we always watched Monday Night Football as a family.  We would skip dinner and have MNF snacks.  Well, with the Packer’s game on

MNF last week we started that tradition with our family.

On a completely unrelated note…Caleb is now able to go to Kids Junction with Mandy…in order to do that we needed to get him school supplies including as Caleb calls it his “backack” (backpack for those of you who don’t speak 1 year old speak).  He looks really cute with his backack

I hope you are having a great week, I will talk to you later.

    Jeff

P.S. – btw…things are going pretty well for us, one of these days when we aren’t so busy I will write a post updating on how things are going.

  • Two sets in one day…we must be crazy…

OK, so after I posted pictures earlier we took a local photography studio up on their $9.95 package deal (we ended up buying a few more pictures, but we stayed within our very conservative budget), and as part of the deal they gave us a CD with all of the pictures that they took.

DO NOT PRINT THESE PICTURES OR I WILL TAKE THEM OFF AND EVERYONE ELSE WILL HAVE TO BEAT YOU BECAUSE THEY DON’T GET THEIR CALEB FIX ANYMORE!!!

They did say that we could put them on our blog, but seriously, enjoy the pics online and don’t print them.  They are presented as thumbnails if you want to see a larger version click on a picture.

We hope you enjoyed the pictures, have a great rest of the weekend.

  • More Pictures…

OK, so I was told that people were having a hard time figuring out where pictures were so I will once again let pictures take over the blog.  I know we haven’t posted pictures in awhile, but things have been a little bit busy.  So I won’t keep jabbering because all you come here for is the pictures anyway.  I’m just kidding, I know some of you come here for my witty banter, but unfortunately, this post is not for you.  I will post witty banter some other time.  Here are a couple pictures of Caleb on tractor at breakfast on the farm.

    Caleb on a tractor

Caleb on the tractor from a different angle.

With some of his money Caleb was able to purchase a swimming toy, so here he is playing with it on a couple occasions.

Daddy and Caleb playing in the new pool

Caleb and his buddy playing in the pool.

We also went to the zoo for Feast with the Beasts here in Madison.  Caleb and mommy got a picture with a lion.  I don’t have a really good picture of it, but later on Caleb thought it would be fun to play with the lion’s tail…it was hilarious because the guy in the suit didn’t know what to do.

    Caleb, Mommy, and a lion.

Mandy watched one of Caleb’s buddies the other night, they were having a lot of fun just hamming it up.

    Hamming it up.

    Finally, the obligitory 4th

of July picture of him in red, white, and blue.  We were over at a friends house and I got this picture.

    4th of July

I hope you had a great 4th and hope you enjoyed the pictures.

  • Oh, the weather outside is frightful

Well, Tuesday night we had a delightful fire (thanks Mike & Penny for the fire pit), but the weather tonight is pretty bad… First, let me roll back to Sunday. We were at a graduation party as this storm front was rolling in.

    Cloud front rolling in.

Here’s another view of it as it rolls towards us.

Through the weekend we were worried that we would get water in our basement. We rarely get water in our basement, but when we do it usually comes in through the window next to my office but we didn’t get any so we were relieved. Then, I went to get something out of our storage area on Tuesday night and found out we had gotten water in our storage area, but really all we lost were some cardboard boxes so we made out pretty well.

We are in the middle of another round of storms, most of you who read know about the waterway next to our house…it usually looks like this.

Caleb at a picnic in the culvert

You can see that the commons area is usually wide enough around the culvert that we had 2 picnic tables for people to sit at and plenty of room behind them…the culvert is that cement thing in the background.

Here is the culvert and common area tonight.

    overflowing

So far we do not have any water in our house, but the storm isn’t over yet, please pray with us and for the families affected by the storms. Have a great night.
